Training Consortium Kicks-Off

Kirkwood Community College is offering free training to businesses in Jones County. Professionals can learn how to have critical conversations from organizational psychologist, Dr. Celina Peerman, on Tuesday, June 13, at the Fawn Creek Country Club in Anamosa. The college is partnering with the Anamosa and Monticello Chambers of Commerce and Jones County Economic Development to offer year-round business training in the area.

The free training event enables Jones County professionals to sample Kirkwood workforce education and training closer to home. Consultant Dr. Peerman specializes in organizational behavior and human resource management. Her experience includes senior leadership roles in human resource, organizational development and operations for both profit and nonprofit organizations. The event will kick off expanded training opportunities in Jones County.

“Partnering with Jones County affords area employers relevant training and access to high-profile instructors at a reduced cost,” said Kirkwood Program Director Barb Rawson. “Businesses can join our training consortium and send various employees to courses suited for them at locations in Monticello and Anamosa.”

Kirkwood has been providing customized solutions to over 400 employers in Iowa’s Creative Corridor for more than 30 years. Courses range from process improvement to skill building to industry-specific leadership and safety training. Not only does the college facilitate training, but Kirkwood also administers programs funded by the state of Iowa created to grow business.

According to analysis by Fortune magazine, employers in their 100 Best Companies to Work For are committed to employee development as a top strategic priority. These companies recognize that employee training promotes retention and engagement, positively affecting the bottom line.
